Globe warns public against mobile scams
MANILA, Philippines - Globe Telecom has warned its customers against mobile scams targeting postpaid and prepaid subscribers.
In a public advisory, Globe said the first modus operandi involves a fraudulent person disguising as a customer service representative and would tell a subscriber that he or she is eligible to get rewards from the telecommunications company.
The fraudster would ask the subscriber for a set of pin codes from sender “2800,” which will then be used to purchase items online. This will be charged to the postpaid bill or deducted from the prepaid credits of the subscriber.
Globe also warned its subscribers to refrain from responding to messages from unknown senders. The company said there have been cases of subscribers who were deceived into sending prepaid credits to a “reference number,” which is actually the number of the fraudster.
Globe asked the public to immediately report suspicious texts or calls to avoid falling victims to mobile scams.
