Crewman kills captain, colleague in ship
MANILA, Philippines - A crewman allegedly killed the captain of a motorized tanker and another crewman as the ship sailed toward Bataan, the Manila Police District (MPD) said yesterday.
Police Officer 3 Rodel Benitez identified the victims as ship captain Manuel Ramilo and ship checker Rolando Corsiga. He said law enforcers are looking for pump man Reynaldo Bulawan.
The two victims, Bulawan and seven others are all crewmembers of M/T Sarah Margarita, which was on its way to an oil refinery in Bataan when Corsiga and Bulawan reportedly had a heated argument.
Witnesses said gunshots were heard in the ship’s pilothouse, where Ramilo was manning the steering wheel. Corsiga was also inside.
Bulawan, holding a handgun and a bolo, ordered chief mate Edwin Bisly to turn the ship around and position it below the Delpan Bridge. Once the ship was in position, Bulawan reportedly jumped to a nearby barge and escaped.
Ramilo was shot in the left armpit while Corsiga was shot twice in the chest, twice more in the back and in the right arm.
