Cabbie shot dead in Manila

MANILA, Philippines - A taxi driver was robbed and shot dead in Malate, Manila at past midnight yesterday.

Witnesses said the ones who robbed Vilma O. Bell taxi driver Dionilo Orenso, around 40 to 45 years old, were seen running along Esguerra street at around 1:30 a.m.

Barangay 773 Zone 80 chairman Ernesto Rosales said he was awakened by neighbors who told him about a taxi driver attacked at the corner of A. Linao and Esguerra streets.

Orenso was found lying on the street, his feet still in the taxi. He had been shot on the right side of his forehead, with the bullet going through the back of his head. His personal belongings and money were missing.

Orenso’s body was brought to the St. Yvan Funeral Parlor for autopsy and safekeeping.
