Cop kills rob suspect on way to inquest

MANILA, Philippines - A suspected robber was killed after he allegedly tried to escape and grabbed the gun of a policeman on their way to inquest proceedings yesterday.

Johhny Geraldez, 30, of Antipolo City, was shot at past 1 p.m. in Barangay Aurora as two policemen were bringing him to the prosecutor’s office.

Superintendent Norberto Babagay, commander of Quezon City Police District Station 11, said Geraldez allegedly grabbed the gun of one of the two police officers guarding him in a police car, prompting the lawman to shoot him.

The suspect was declared dead on arrival at a hospital. Babagay said the suspect was turned over to them by village watchmen of Barangay Dona Josefa, where he was arrested after allegedly robbing and stabbing a woman the night before.
