Binay to NHA: Relocate homeless Marikina residents
MANILA, Philippines - Vice President Jejomar Binay ordered yesterday the National Housing Authority (NHA) to coordinate with the Marikina City government and draft a resettlement plan for its residents who were rendered homeless by massive flooding.
Binay, chairman of the Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council, visited the evacuees at the Hermogenes Bautista Elementary School and Nangka Elementary School in the city.
He ordered the NHA to prioritize the affected families who are living in “danger zones” in Marikina.
“I already ordered the NHA officials to immediately coordinate with the officials of Marikina City government for the resettlement of the affected residents,” Binay said.
Marikina was among those badly affected by torrential rains.
Binay deployed the VP Disaster Volunteer Group to help rescue families trapped by flooding in Barangay Tumana, Purok 5 in Malanday and Barangay Polelak.
Marikina Vice Mayor Jose Cadiz thanked the Vice President for sending his rescue team.
The Office of the Vice President has distributed relief goods to evacuees in Montalban, Rizal and Bagong Silangan.
