- Reinir Padua - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - A seafarer died after being stabbed during a robbery attempt at the Metro Rail Transit’s Balintawak station in Quezon City Monday afternoon.

Police Officer 1 Bryan Lorenzo, who is assigned at the station, said he had just finished his duty and was waiting for a ride home when he heard gunshots fired at past 2 p.m. When he looked back he saw Romulo Legerin, 40, grappling with two men at the foot of the stairs leading to the station.

The two men fled upon seeing Lorenzo, who sought the help of fellow policemen and rushed Legerin to the MCU Hospital. The victim was declared dead on arrival from several stab wounds in the body.

Inspector Elmer Monsalve, chief of the homicide investigation section of the Quezon City Police District, believes that the two men had tried to rob the victim. Police found a handgun Legerin had fired during the struggle.
