Drunk carpenter stabs partner

MANILA, Philippines - A drunk carpenter was arrested after he stabbed his partner, a dressmaker, in front of the latter’s daughter in Marikina City yesterday.

Antonio Montecalvo, 50, is being held at the Marikina police detention center while his partner, Liwanag Duyanan, 40, was reported to be in critical condition at the Amang Rodriguez Memorial Medical Center.

Senior Police Officer 1 Aladdin Alingas said Montecalvo was seen drinking in Duyanan’s house. When he became drunk, he and his partner had a heated argument in front of Duyanan’s 14-year-old daughter.

At the height of the argument, Montecalvo pulled out a fan knife and repeated stabbed Duyanan, ignoring the daughter’s pleas for him to stop. When Duyanan fell to the floor, Montecalvo fled. He was arrested in his house.

Alingas is preparing to charge Montecalvo with frustrated murder.
