Manila traffic cop accidentally kills self

MANILA, Philippines - A veteran traffic police officer accidentally killed himself after his gun went off inside the office of the Manila Traffic Bureau on Tuesday.

Initial investigation showed that Senior Police Officer 3 Hirro Hernandez, 49, was manning the MTB desk at 1:30 p.m. when he complained of severe headache.

Hernandez then decided to lie down and rest on a sofa, according to case officer PO3 Henry Navarro.

Navarro said Hernandez placed his gun under a pillow but it fell and accidentally fired, hitting him in the right temple. The policeman was rushed to the Ospital ng Maynila but he was declared dead on arrival.

The Manila Police District-homicide section is still investigating the incident to determine if there was foul play.
