- Rhodina Villanueva - The Philippine Star

Manila, Philippines - A 37-year-old tricycle driver died and two others were injured when a dump truck plowed through a row of tricycles in Quezon City yesterday morning.

Senior Police Officer 1 Pablito Pagtalunan identified the victim as Oscar Saygo, a resident of Barangay Culiat, Quezon City.

Pagtalunan said Saygo died after he was pinned underneath a dump truck (GKE-935) that flipped over and landed on its left side around 9:30 a.m. along Central Avenue in Barangay Culiat.

A traffic investigator said two others – tricycle driver Conrado Canta, 45; and canteen cook Margie Jamile, 19 – sustained minor injuries during the incident. They were brought by responding rescue teams of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority to the East Avenue Medical Center.

Dump truck driver Ignacio Democrito, 21, who works for the Angeles-Regala Gravel and Sand, said he was taking the truck, loaded with gravel, to a construction site when a motorist tried to overtake his vehicle. He tried to avoid hitting the car but lost control of the truck. Democrito is in police custody.
