MANILA, Philippines - Three holdup men allegedly out to rob bank clients were killed after they traded shots with police in Fairview, Quezon City yesterday.
Quezon City Police District (QCPD) director Chief Superintendent Mario de la Vega said that prior to the shootout, the suspects were spotted waiting outside a bank along Commonwealth Avenue.
“It’s possible that they were planning to victimize those who had just withdrawn money from the bank or they were also targeting to rob the bank itself,” he said.
Operatives from the QCPD’s District Police Intelligence Operating Unit were conducting anti-criminality patrol at 2 p.m. when they chanced upon the suspects acting suspiciously in the area.
A firefight ensued as the policemen were about to accost the suspects.
Police have yet to identify the slain suspects who were armed with caliber .45 and .38 handguns.
One of them managed to cross the road toward a motorcycle, which was apparently the suspects’ getaway vehicle.
