MANILA, Philippines - A grenade exploded in the National Housing Authority (NHA) compound in Quezon City yesterday morning, damaging six parked vehicles.

Superintendent Michael Macapagal, commander of Quezon City Police District Station 9, said an MK2 fragmentation hand grenade was lobbed from outside the perimeter fence along Maharlika Road between 5:15 a.m. and 5:30 a.m.

The blast damaged an owner-type jeep (ZDH-859), a gray Toyota Hi-Ace (RDC-423), a gray Mitsubishi L-300 (TGU-595), a red Toyota Lite Ace (PSI-303), a gray Nissan Navarra (XJT-333), and a gray Toyota Innova (SKL-283).

No one was hurt in the explosion. “It was meant to scare and not to hurt anyone since it took place very early in the morning,” Macapagal said.

A lever of the grenade was found on the roof of a parking area along the side of Maharlika Road.

Police are investigating the identity of those behind the attack. Macapagal said they were looking into the possibility that it had something to do with a case pending before the government agency.
