Bus hits boy chasing pet dog along EDSA

MANILA, Philippines - A 13-year-old boy was hit by a bus as he ran after his pet dog along EDSA before dawn yesterday.

John Melo Solomon, of Barangay Apolonio Samson and his pet died on the spot after the bus’ right front tire ran over them at around 2:30 a.m. on EDSA’s southbound lane near the corner of Kaingin Road, traffic investigator Christian Mendieta said.

Witnesses saw the boy calling his dog to go back to the sidewalk, but the dog ran to the middle of EDSA, forcing Solomon to go after it.

Mendieta noted that there were skid marks on the road, which indicate that the driver of the bus (TVZ-346) attempted to avoid the boy.

Witnesses also told police that the bus conductor and the driver got off the bus to help the victim, but when they saw the boy’s angry uncle approach them, they returned to the bus – apparently out of fear – and drove off.
