MANILA, Philippines - A policeman was stabbed and shot dead by a neighborhood toughie in Quezon City Friday afternoon.
Senior Police Officer 1 Harry de Ocampo, 46, of the Quezon City Police District’s Headquarters Support Unit, died on the spot following the attack at around 4:30 p.m. in front of his house in Barangay Unang Sigaw.
Investigator SPO1 Randy Bantillo said De Ocampo suffered multiple stab wounds in the body and a gunshot wound in the chest.
Police have in custody Philip Carpio, 37, a neighbor of the victim. He is confined at Quezon City General Hospital after sustaining a stab wound in the chest during the scuffle with the victim.
Residents told police that whenever Carpio was drunk, he would always challenge the victim to a fight, for reasons unknown.
Last Friday, the suspect allegedly approached the victim and started stabbing him. The policeman pulled out his gun but missed the suspect, who managed to grab the firearm and use it on the victim.
A struggle ensued, during which the suspect was stabbed in the chest. After the victim fell, the suspect tried to escape and take with him the bladed weapon and De Ocampo’s .45 caliber service firearm.
