Ex-convict hacks wife to death
Manila, Philippines - Jealousy reportedly drove an ex-convict to hack his common-law wife to death inside their house in Muntinlupa City shortly before midnight Wednesday.
Emily Berganos died on the spot from hack wounds in the different parts of her body.
Police said that suspect Alfert Prado killed his live-in partner of 20 years using a jungle bolo.
Prior to this, reports said the couple was engaged in a heated argument at 11:30 p.m.
“Nobody tried to stop them because their children and neighbors were used to seeing them quarreling. The people thought it was one of their regular fights,” said Chief Inspector Giovanni Martinez.
After a few minutes, their children were shocked upon seeing blood dripping from the second floor of their house.
Responding policemen found the suspect sitting in front of his wife while holding the weapon he used in the crime.
The incident was reported to the police as a hostage-taking incident.
Prado will be charged with parricide. He is currently confined at the Ospital ng Muntinlupa for treatment of self-inflicted wounds.
