2 arrested for robbing, throwing man out of bus

MANILA, Philippines - About a month since the death of Paolo Arizala, who was thrown out of a moving bus on Edsa, two men were identified as the persons who killed him following their arrest in Quezon City Friday night.

Jayson Montoya, 20, and Dyerald Navia, 18, both from Barangay Batasan Hills, have been identified by gasoline station attendants as among those who robbed Arizala, 28, a call center agent, on May 19.

Inspector Elmer Monsalve, chief of the homicide investigation section of the Quezon City Police District’s Criminal Investigation and Detection, said the suspects were seen running away from Arizala as he was thrown out of the bus.

Arizala, who was stabbed in the chest, lost his Sony Ericsson Experia mobile phone and P15,000 in cash.

Monsalve said the two suspects and their group are believed to be behind bus robberies along EDSA in Quezon City.

Policemen caught the two suspects after they robbed Maricel Joan Yubac at past 11 p.m. Friday at the Metro Rail Transit’s Muñoz station in Quezon City.

Senior Police Officer 3 Nick Fontanilla said they found a bladed weapon in Montoya’s possession while they recovered Yubac’s cell phone from Navia.

Yubac told police she was riding a jeepney that night when the two suspects approached her, took her cell phone at knifepoint and boarded a northbound bus. She flagged down a team of police officers on patrol as they passed by the MRT station.

The police officers chased the bus and stopped it along Congressional Road, where they boarded the vehicle and arrested the suspects.
