Bus kills welder

MANILA, Philippines - A welder was killed after being hit by a passenger bus in Makati City yesterday morning.

Acting city police chief Superintendent Jaime Santos said Anthony Gonzales, 31, was crossing Buendia Avenue at 6:30 a.m. when he was struck by a Pasay-bound BBL (PYT-548) bus driven by Agripino Espanyol.

The bus driver sped off after hitting Gonzales, police said.

The victim was rushed to the nearby Ospital ng Makati where he was declared dead on arrival.

Police later arrested Espanyol. He is now locked up in jail facing charges of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide.
