Man goes wild over neighbor's barking dog
MANILA, Philippines - A 68-year-old former overseas worker was wounded in a shootout with policemen who came to arrest him in Marikina City Sunday for allegedly firing his gun because he was irritated by the barking of his neighbor’s dog.
Jose Guevarra was reportedly drunk when he started shooting in Barangay Calumpang at around 8:30 p.m. Sunday. His neighbors, Mann Santillan and Francis Fadullon, told police Guevarra pointed his gun at them and demanded that they “silence” their dog or he would kill them.
Santillan reported the incident, and policemen and barangay officials arrived minutes later.
One of the policemen, a certain Police Officer 2 De los Reyes, asked Guevarra to lower his gun and surrender, but the sexagenarian shot at the policemen. De los Reyes shot Guevarra, who suffered a gunshot wound in the right thigh. He is being treated at the Amang Rodriguez Memorial Medical Center.
Guevarra yielded a 9mm automatic pistol, a loaded magazine, and several shells.
Senior Inspector Eduardo Cayetano, chief of the criminal investigation division, said they will file appropriate charges against Guevarra, who is under a 24-hour watch.
