Aguilar orders cleanup of Las Piñas public schools
MANILA, Philippines - Las Piñas Mayor Nene Aguilar ordered Thursday a cleanup of public schools in the city in preparation for the opening of classes next month.
He told school officials that the cleanup is part of a series of activities to strengthen city government’s effort to “care for the environment, maintain cleanliness and attend to the physical and cultural well-being of the people” and the 14,000 schoolchildren in the city.
City schools division superintendent Norma Ablan Adamos announced that the Brigada Eskwela cleanup will be from May 21 to May 25.
Aguilar also appealed to private school owners, residents and homeowners to regularly clean their surroundings to curb the spread of waterborne diseases, particularly dengue.
“Every nook and cranny of local schools must be kept spic and span so as not to risk the pupils contracting the deadly disease,” he said.
