Drunk cop dies in motorbike mishap

MANILA, Philippines - A drunk off-duty policeman died after he hit a pothole while driving his motorcycle in Quezon City before dawn yesterday.

Police Officer 1 Roel Gagala, 29, a resident of Marikina City where he is also assigned, died following the accident at past 2 a.m. at the corner of E. Rodriguez Jr. and Eastwood Avenues in Barangay Bagong Bayan.

Traffic investigator SPO4 Henry Se said Gagala, who suffered head injuries, was rushed to the Quirino Memorial Medical Center but died at past 4 a.m.

Se noted that even though the victim wore a helmet, he hit his face hard against the pavement.
