2 Taiwanese arrested for drug smuggling at NAIA

- Rudy Santos -

MANILA, Philippines - Two Taiwanese nationals were arrested at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) after they attempted to smuggle illegal drugs into the country, the Bureau of Immigration said yesterday.

Immigration Airport Operations Division chief Ben Se identified the suspects as Shen Wun Bing, 34, and Lan Mao Yang, 28.

Authorities said the suspects acted suspiciously while being processed at the NAIA immigration counter shortly after their arrival at the airport on April 26 onboard a China Airlines flight from Taipei. They yielded several tablets of the prohibited drugs Clonazepam and Alprazolam.

The suspects are now under the custody of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency for further investigation and filing of charges.
