Man brags about shotgun, kills pal by accident

MANILA, Philippines - A man who bragged having an improvised shotgun accidentally shot and killed his drinking buddy in Balut, Tondo, Manila yesterday.

Pedicab driver Mario Amaba, alias “Bay Bisaya,” 40, fled after the incident and is the subject of a manhunt by the Manila Police District’s homicide division personnel.

Homicide investigator Senior Police Officer 2 Virgo Villareal said Amaba was drinking with Luis Viador, 50, another pedicab driver, and two others beside a restaurant along Buendia street when he said he was carrying an improvised shotgun or “sumpak” at around 2:35 a.m.

Viador reportedly told Amaba to just hide the gun if he could not fire it. Provoked, Amaba replied he would not bring a gun if he could not use it. He then loaded the shotgun and cocked it. The shotgun went off, hitting Viador in the face and killing him on the spot.
