Habitat to launch Youth Build project in Navotas
MANILA, Philippines - The Habitat for Humanity Youth Council urged Navotas City youths yesterday to help in the construction of its citywide housing program.
Vacationing Columbia University student Alexandra Eduque, a Habitat volunteer, is spearheading the efforts of the Habitat Youth Council to raise P40 million for the construction of 459 houses this year in areas devastated by typhoons, including Navotas City.
Eduque said Habitat is closely working with local government unit officials to create an overall citywide shelter plan and on how to help decrease overall poverty by 20 percent by 2020.
Eduque and fellow Habitat leaders Isabel Francisco Martel, Kevin Yang, Simon Tantoco and Pedro Roxas recently met with Mayor John Rey Tiangco, Homoroc and other local youth leaders, led by Jessica Chu.
“It is a tremendous feat, but we can get the job done if we work together,” Eduque said.
The Youth Build project will be launched in Navotas City on May 12 in line with Habitat for Humanity’s 2020 vision campaign “I Build My City, I Build My Philippines.”
