Bidding for LRT Line 1 extension project underway

MANILA, Philippines - Transportation and Communications Secretary Manuel Roxas II yesterday said bidding for the P60-billion Light Rail Transit (LRT) Line 1 extension project will take place before the end of the month.

Roxas said that foreign and local investors have expressed interest in the project.

The National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) had approved the extension of LRT Line 1 from Baclaran station to Bacoor, Cavite.

Once the project is completed, LRT Line 1 would serve about 40,000 passengers daily.

Roxas said the terms of reference for the project are being finalized. “The publication of the bid, it will be a design and construct – construction will start by the end of the year,” he said.

He added that a number of investors have submitted their bids for the project.
