QC cop, retired Marine slain in Marikina
MANILA, Philippines - A Quezon City policeman and a retired Marine colonel were killed in separate ambuscades staged by motorcycle-riding men in Marikina City on Easter Sunday.
SPO3 Rocco Matic, 42, and retired colonel Jaime Naval, 56, died while being rushed to the hospital.
Matic, assigned at the Quezon City Police District Station 9, was seated behind the wheel of his Mitsubishi Adventure (NQG-302) in front of the NGI market in Barangay Parang when three men on a motorcycle stopped beside him at around 3:45 p.m. He was waiting for his wife and two children to return from shopping.
One of the three men approached Matic and shot him in the head, neck and chest with a .45 caliber pistol. The policeman died while being rushed to the Amang Rodriguez Memorial Medical Center (ARMMC).
Around six hours later, Naval was shot dead by motorcycle-riding men who went into their family compound along Palaris street, also in Barangay Parang. Police said the back rider approached Naval and shot him in the face, chin, chest and right hand with a .45 caliber pistol. He, too, died while being rushed to the ARMMC.
Naval was with Intelligence Service of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (ISAFP) before his recent retirement.
Investigators are trying to determine the motives behind the killing of Matic and Naval, as their attackers were seen wearing masks, apparently to hide their identities.
