MANILA, Philippines - A 52-year-old seaman was charged with parricide Wednesday for killing his 80-year-old father during a heated argument over the use of the family van in Tondo, Manila last March 26.

Assistant City Prosecutor Nestle Go charged Anthony Alonzo with parricide before the Manila Regional Trial Court. No bail was recommended.

The Manila Police District’s homicide section reported that Anthony and his father, Jose, were arguing over the use of the family van at around 7 p.m. on March 26. His mother, Lisa, 78, joined the argument until, during the height of the exchange, Anthony shoved his father, who landed on the floor.

Jose died of head injuries about 13 hours after the incident. Police officers arrested Anthony at their house.
