Workers to get extra pay on Black Saturday
MANILA, Philippines - Workers will get additional pay if they will report for work on Black Saturday, the labor department said yesterday.
Labor Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz said those who would work on April 7 would get an additional 30 percent on top of their daily basic pay for the first eight hours of work.
“At least 50 percent over and above the basic pay, or a total of 150 percent would be given to a worker required to work on said day, which may be his or her scheduled rest day,” Baldoz said.
Malacañang earlier declared Black Saturday, which falls between Good Friday and Easter Sunday, a special non-working day throughout the country.
However, Baldoz said the no work no pay policy would also be implemented, unless there is an agreement between workers and employers that provide for payment for special non-working days.
Workers who will report for work today and tomorrow as well as on April 9 (Araw ng Kagitingan) shall be receiving additional pay.
Baldoz reminded employers nationwide to observe the proper pay rules and provide their workers the mandated benefits.
