Carjacker who tried to steal Makati cop's van nabbed

- Mike Frialde -

MANILA, Philippines - An alert Makati policeman arrested a suspected carjacker and his cohort who tried to steal his van at a gasoline station in Barangay Magallanes Tuesday night.

Makati City acting police chief, Superintendent Jaime Santos said Oliver Valcos and Vergel Nacua contacted SPO1 John Ramirez and his business partner Manila policeman PO3 Neil Encarnacion to rent a Toyota Grandia van.

Santos said the two policemen operate an Internet-based van rental business.

Santos said that when the suspects and the policemen met at a gas station, Valcos excused himself to go to the station’s comfort room.

When Ramirez followed Valcos, the latter drew a .45 caliber pistol and shot Ramirez but missed.

The policemen seized a grenade and rolls of packing tape, which the suspects admitted they would use to tie the policemen.
