MANILA, Philippines - Two police officers were slain in the northern part of Metro Manila in a span of three days, with their killers still at large.
Senior Police Officer 1 Manolo Caoili, 24 of the Manila Police District, accompanied his neighbor, Ryan John Villa, a complainant in a frustrated murder case, to a hearing at the office of Caloocan city fiscal Darwin Canete Friday afternoon.
“The victim had just left my office when the shooting occurred,” Canete told The STAR.
Caoili died from four gunshot wounds in the head and body on the way to the President Diosdado Macapagal Memorial Medical Center.
A witness said he saw two men on a motorcycle chase Caoili’s car as it sped off along 10th Avenue. Despite his wounds, Caoili tried to drive away but hit a parked truck near the Police Community Precinct 9. Tricycle drivers brought him to the hospital.
At past midnight Wednesday, Police Officer 2 Christopher Estor of the Navotas City police was gunned down by Allan Castro, reportedly a drug pusher and contract killer, when he tried to accost Castro for driving a motorcycle without a helmet.
Estor died on the spot from two bullet wounds in the chest. Castro remains at large, and sources said the suspect, a resident of a shantytown at the Navotas Fish Port Complex, is protected by a group of fish traders in the area.
