Manila cop nabbed for extortion

- Ramil Bajo, Rey Galupo -

MANILA, Philippines - Police officers from the Manila Police District General Assignment Section raided the locker room of the MPD’s District Mobile Patrol Unit yesterday and arrested one of their colleagues for allegedly extorting money from a Korean tourist.

Senior Police Officer Abelardo Aguilar reported that Choi You Kyung, 27, and two female friends were walking along Mabini street when PO1 Raul Declaro, 42, accosted them and demanded an identification card.

Declaro allegedly demanded P10,000, which he later reduced to P3,000. Upon receiving the money, the policeman let Choi and his companions go.

Choi reported the incident to the Korean embassy, which filed a formal complaint that led to Declaro’s arrest. Declaro denied the allegations against him.
