Teen drowns in Pagasa pool

- Reinir Padua -

MANILA, Philippines – A teenager drowned after diving into the swimming pool of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration compound in Barangay Pinyahan, Quezon City Sunday.

Lifeguard Luisito Atos told police he saw Jason Garcia, 18, suddenly dive into the pool. When he did not surface, Atos said he dove into the pool and pulled Garcia out.

After Atos performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation, the victim was rushed to East Avenue Medical Center but was declared dead on arrival.

Inspector Elmer Monsalve, Quezon City Police District homicide section chief, advised that no one should swim alone and people should avoid a pool’s deep areas if they do not know how to swim.
