Carjack suspect caught at supermarket parking lot

MANILA, Philippines - A man was caught trying to carjack a Toyota Innova by threatening its owner with an ice pick at a supermarket parking lot in Quezon City Friday night.

Antonio Diaz, 32, was arrested by policemen at around 8:30 p.m. in the parking area in front of a supermarket at the corner of Del Monte and Araneta Avenues in Barangay Talayan.

Superintendent Lino Banaag, commander of the Quezon City Police District Station 1, said Trinidad Alcantara, 47, had just come from the supermarket when Diaz approached her as she opened the car’s door.

Diaz pushed Alcantara into the car as he took over the steering wheel. He was about to speed away when policemen on patrol, alerted by the victim’s shouts, stopped the car.
