MM registers hottest day this year - Pagasa

MANILA, Philippines - Yesterday was the hottest day in Metro Manila so far this year, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

Pagasa weather forecaster Glaiza Escollar said there is a new record for the highest temperature in Metro Manila after the Science Garden recorded 34.5 degrees Celsius at 1:50 p.m. yesterday. The 34.5 degrees Celsius was a .1 increase compared to the 34.4 degrees Celsius temperature recorded last Feb. 23.

She said since March 1, the air has been “warm and moist” and this is expected to continue until mid-May.

Since Pagasa expects the hot weather to persist, Escollar said they are advising the public to stay indoors and carry an umbrella if they have to leave their home or office.

“They should also wear light-colored clothing because it would reflect the sun’s energy and not absorb it. They should also drink plenty of water and avoid liquor that contributes to dehydration,” she said.

Pagasa’s records show that the hottest day in Manila’s history was May 14, 1987 with 38.5 degrees Celsius, while the hottest day in the Philippines was May 11, 1969 at 42.2 degrees Celsius.
