Pregnant woman hangs self

MANILA, Philippines - A woman due to give birth this month to her firstborn hanged herself in her house in Valenzuela City yesterday.

Luzviminda Paburon, 25, was found by her partner, Allan Panares, hanging from a beam with a nylon cord tied around her neck at around 6 a.m. yesterday.

Panares cut the noose and rushed the victim to the Valenzuela General Hospital, where Paburon was declared dead on arrival. Doctors failed to save the baby.

Panares told police his partner despaired over their lack of money to spend for her child’s delivery. Police said the incident is under further investigation to determine if foul play was involved in the victim’s death.
