Murder suspect nabbed in Caloocan

MANILA, Philippines - A cigarette vendor arrested for violating a city ordinance Wednesday night turned out to be a suspect in the murder of a neighbor in Caloocan City three years ago.

Police identified the suspect as Alex Hirate, 39, of Block 5, Lot 3, Salmon corner Sabalo street, Dagat-Dagatan, Caloocan City.

Hirate was arrested for peddling his wares on the street without his shirt on.

Police records showed that Hirate has a pending arrest warrant for stabbing and robbing Melvin Ferrer on Feb. 11, 2009.
