MANILA, Philippines - The Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) will take over the setting up and maintenance of the information database of the Land Transportation Office (LTO).
LTO sources said the DOTC would establish an integrated information technology (IT) system for the department and all its attached agencies.
This means the LTO would no longer bid out the contract for LTO's IT database infrastructure when its contract with Stradcom Corp. ends.
The DOTC, it was learned, is working on the establishment of their centralized IT system, with the help of a firm it was set to contract for the project.
LTO head assistant secretary Virginia Torres is preparing the bidding for the new IT provider that would set up and maintain a database for all the registered vehicles and driver’s licenses and student driver’s permits, and traffic violation receipts, and other issuances, issued by the agency.
Stradcom was awarded the contract for the LTO IT project in 1997. The company spent $100 million to build LTO’s IT infrastructure.
