MANILA, Philippines - The Department of Education (DepEd) is set to roll out of mobile kindergarten classrooms at a public school in Quezon City on Tuesday.
The program, dubbed “Kindergarten on Wheels,” is a collaboration with the Bagong Henerasyon party-list group to help reduce the nationwide classroom backlog of 66,000. The mobile classrooms will be launched at the President Corazon Aquino Elementary School in Batasan Hills.
DepEd Secretary Armin Luistro said the department, tasked to fill the classroom backlog by 2013, is forming partnerships with private businesses and government organizations. The DepEd seeks to provide universal access to kindergarten in public schools by 2016 as part of the administration’s K+12 program, which reorganizes the country’s current education cycle to kindergarten, six years of elementary schooling, four years of high school and two years of senior high school.
