FPIC starts oil leak extraction

- Mike Frialde -

MANILA, Philippines - The First Philippine Industrial Corp. (FPIC), which owns the pipeline that leaked oil into the West Tower Condominium in Barangay Bangkal, Makati City, has started installing its multi-phase extraction (MPE) system in the area.

In a statement, FPIC said the MPE was installed last Saturday after the government’s Inter-agency Committee on Environmental Health approved its use, based on the endorsement of the Department of Science and Technology.

According to the FPIC, the MPE system will clean the soil and groundwater up to levels that will not pose any long-term health risk to the community.

The MPE technology is provided by FPIC’s multinational environmental services contractor, CH2MHill Philippines Inc.
