Househelp hurt in robbery

MANILA, Philippines - A house helper was stabbed several times by a robber for refusing to hand over her cell phone in Caloocan City Wednesday night.

Maisie de Luna, 29, a resident of Barangay 186 in Tala, was still confined yesterday at the East Avenue Medical Center due to stab wounds in the stomach.

Senior Police Officer 4 Dicoroso Domingo said De Luna was waiting for her friend along Sta. Rita Street in Barangay 188 when she was approached by the robber at around 10 p.m. The robber, armed with a knife, demanded De Luna’s P20,000 cell phone but she resisted.

The robber lunged at De Luna, but she parried the knife with her left arm. Despite her wound, the victim continued to struggle and was stabbed several times.

The robber grabbed De Luna’s phone and fled on foot. Bystanders brought De Luna to the hospital. – Jerry Botial, Pete Laude
