Ex-CIDG chief named DND official

MANILA, Philippines - A former chief of the Philippine National Police-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG-PNP-CIDG) has been appointed assistant secretary for personnel of the Department of National Defense.

Defense Secretary Voltaire Gazmin picked retired police director Efren Fernandez to replace Lamberto Sillona, his classmate at the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) Class of 1971.

A former Air Force general, Sillona retired as defense assistant secretary for personnel after reaching the mandatory retirement age of 65.

Aside from being CIDG director, Fernandez served as commander of the Southern Sector Command of the Philippine Constabulary CAPCOM, provincial commander of the Pampanga constabulary command and Bulacan provincial director.
