POEA: No OFWs lost jobs over contract delays
MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) dismissed yesterday reports that foreign employers cancelled the hiring of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) due to delays in the processing of employment contracts.
POEA chief Carlos Cao. Jr. branded as “exaggerated” the claim of the recruitment industry that delays in the processing of employment contracts resulted in the cancellation of job orders.
“There was a slight delay in the processing of contracts after the re-assignment of some front-line employees, but this did not stretch long enough to cause loss of employment opportunities for OFWs,” he said.
Cao said the POEA has adequately and quickly addressed the problem. “We have already formed a task force purposely to decongest the backlog in the processing of employment contracts,” he said.
