Cop in Maguindanao massacre seeks bail

- Reinir Padua -

MANILA, Philippines - A police official indicted in the Maguindanao massacre case wants to post bail.

Chief Inspector Sukarno Dicay, through his lawyer Galeleo Angeles, filed the petition for bail last week before the Regional Trial Court Branch 221.

Dicay asked Judge Jocelyn Solis-Reyes to allow him to post bail, claiming there was no strong evidence against him.

Dicay is among those on the list of state witnesses the prosecution intends to present in court.

Members of the Ampatuan clan are among the 196 accused facing multiple murder charges in connection with the massacre. There are 57 counts of murder pending before Solis-Reyes’ sala, representing the 57 identified victims. The remains of a 58th victim have yet to be found.
