Enrile wants 'grandson' arrested

- Reinir Padua -

MANILA, Philippines - The camp of Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile wants a man claiming to be his grandson arrested after the man reportedly left behind a P600,000 bill with a hospital and reported losing the same items in two different robberies, police said yesterday.

“We could slap him with perjury charges because of the apparently fictitious robbery incidents that he reported,” Superintendent Audie Madrideo, commander of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) Station 2, said.

What is puzzling the police is why the man is reporting these “fictitious” robbery cases, he said.

“We don’t know what his motive is. What is clear is he is using the name of the Enriles,” Madrideo said. “We are calling on those who may happen to know this person or encounter any of his stories to report to us.”

Madrideo said he is in contact with those from the Senate President’s camp and that the latter wants the “con artist” arrested.

Last Monday, a man who identified himself as Achilles Silva Ponce Enrile, 32, reported to the QCPD that he was robbed by a taxi driver near a mall on North EDSA. He claimed to be a call center supervisor residing in Ayala Alabang Village in Muntinlupa City.

However, the QCPD checked and Lee Mayoralde Ponce Enrile, purportedly a grandson of the Senate President, reported being robbed in a restroom cubicle at a mall in Mandaluyong City on Oct. 13.

“Comparing the two reports, he claimed to have lost the exact same wallet – a green Lacoste,” Madrideo said. “And how could he have lost his platinum wedding ring in the supposed robbery last month, have it back only to lose it again in another heist that he claimed happened last Monday?”

Lee Mayoralde Ponce Enrile also left behind an unpaid P600,000 bill at The Medical City in Pasig. The man had complained of chest pains when he was brought to the hospital on Sept. 1.

Based on documents from the hospital, the man was described to be a “polar patient” and a “professional swindler,” who was using a “fictitious name, address and pertinent documents.”

Comparing the picture of the man who was confined at the hospital and the two others who reported the robberies in Quezon City and Mandaluyong, they turned out to be the same person, Madrideo said.

The man had even presented a birth certificate stating that his father is Juan Ponce Enrile Jr., while his mother is named Lovella Silva Mayoralde.
