1 killed, 27 hurt in QC road mishaps

MANILA, Philippines - One person was killed while 27 others were injured in two separate vehicular accidents in Quezon City yesterday morning.

The fatality, identified as Arturo Albaladejo, driver of a Malanday Metrolink bus, died after his vehicle rammed a parked dump truck.

At least 20 passengers were also hurt in the incident, which happened at around 2 a.m. along EDSA near the corner of Quezon Avenue.

More than three hours later, a seven-vehicle collision along Quirino Highway in Barangay Greater Lagro injured seven persons.

Among those seriously hurt were Angel Aliwalas, 35, and his wife Jocelyn, 39 of Block 9, Lot 6, Dreamland Ville, San Jose del Monte, Bulacan.

Traffic Enforcer Pablo Hernandez said the couple were on board a Honda motorcycle, which was among the vehicles involved in the collision, which happened at around 5:30 a.m.

Also hurt were passengers of a jeepney identified as Luis Caberos Citu, 71 and his wife Aurora, 69, of Pleasant Hills Subdivision, San Jose del Monte, Bulacan; Maria Karen Gomez, 25, of Pangarap Village, Caloocan City; Lydia Liad, 36, of Manggahan Site, Malaria, Caloocan City; and Elmer Decina Eloy, 40, of Narra street, Pleasant Hills Subdivision, San Jose del Monte, Bulacan.

They were rushed to Neopolitan Hospital located also in Barangay Greater Lagro and East Avenue Medical Center. 

 Hernandez said the driver responsible for the seven-vehicle collision identified as Pedrito Malunes, 36, of Tungkong Mangga, San Jose del Monte, Bulacan, was arrested.

Charges of reckless imprudence resulting in multiple damage to property and multiple serious physical injuries are now being readied against him.

Malunes was driving a JFT Bus and was cruising the Southbound lane of Quirino Highway when he rammed a Hyundai Starex van which hit a Honda City, a Toyota Corolla, a passenger jeepney, and a motorcycle.
