MMDA paints bike lanes blue

MANILA, Philippines - The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority has painted the motorcycle lanes along Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City and Diosdado Macapagal Boulevard in Pasay City blue to make it more visible to motorcycle riders.

MMDA chairman Francis Tolentino said the lanes will now be called “blue lanes.”

“Our men worked feverishly, round the clock to paint the lanes blue so that they could be easily identified,” Tolentino said.

MMDA traffic enforcers flagged down a total of 688 motorcycle riders, 355 of them at the Diosdado Macapagal Boulevard for not using the motorcycle lane.

Expert riders of the MMDA gave these motorcyclists a 15-minute lecture on motorcycle road safety.

The MMDA earlier said erring motorcyclists will be issued traffic violation tickets and will be made to pay a P500 fine for every violation made after the one-week dry run.
