3 hurt as train crashes into taxi

MANILA, Philippines - A Philippine National Railways (PNR) train hit a taxi crossing the railroad tracks in Sampaloc, Manila before dawn yesterday.

Senior Police Officer 1 Mario Lising said cabbie Rodrigo Tabor Jr., 31; and passengers Lawrence Bulanyungan, 49, and Lambert Bulatao, 54, were injured in the accident, which happened along the railroad tracks between Antipolo and Algeciras streets, crossing España Boulevard.

Tabor and Bulanyungan were released after being treated for minor injuries at the United Doctors Medical Center. Bulatao remains confined at the UDMC after his ribs were hurt when the train struck the left rear portion of the Nelson Huliganga taxi, where he was seated.

Tabor denied racing against the train, Lising said.
