5 drunk men beat up cop in Marikina

MANILA, Philippines - Four of five drunken men were arrested for allegedly beating up and disarming a policeman in Marikina City Sunday.

Police Officer 2 Jessie Eleria, 39, identified Alex Ulep, 41; Alfredo Templaza, 26; Alne Templaza, 29, and Joel Tomas, 23, as among those who attacked him.

Eleria said he was driving his motorcycle when he was approached by the five men in Barangay Concepcion at around 9:30 p.m. Sunday. The suspects asked Eleria why he has a “police” sticker on his motorcycle.

Eleria identified himself as a policeman, but this did not stop the five men from attacking him. A concerned citizen called up the police, and responding police officers arrested the four suspects after a brief chase.

Eleria’s service firearm, a .9mm automatic pistol, was recovered from one of the suspects.
