Ex-cop nabbed for extortion

- Reinir Padua -

MANILA, Philippines - A dismissed policeman and his companion were caught allegedly extorting money from motorists in Quezon City Thursday afternoon.

Superintendent Lino Banaag, Quezon City Police District Station 1 commander, said they have been looking for Jose Igig, 36, who once held the rank of Police Officer 1, and Mario Dionisio, 36, “for two months now.”

He said he has been receiving complaints that motorists were being flagged down by the suspects and forced to give money.

Police officers on patrol arrested Igig, who was wearing a police uniform, and Dionisio, who was in civilian clothes but had a badge on his belt, along A. Bonifacio Avenue.

A motorcycle (PN-EP-3161), two booklets of ordinance violation receipts, and two .9mm clips were seized from the suspects.
