NBI nabs tabloid owner for illegal recruitment

MANILA, Philippines - The owner of a tabloid was arrested by National Bureau of Investigation agents yesterday morning on allegations of large-scale illegal recruitment.

Vilma Manzo Mabilangan, who owns the tabloid Toro, was caught while in a car along Roxas Boulevard in Manila at around 11:30 a.m., according to Special Investigator Ana Labao.

Mabilangan – also known as Vilma Manzo and Vilma Angue – reportedly promised high-paying jobs in Russia that turned out to be nonexistent to 40 residents of Tanauan, Batangas. She denied the allegations.

Labao said they merely served an arrest warrant issued by a lower court.
