Man kills himself in front of partner, neighbor

MANILA, Philippines - A 27-year-old man shot himself in the head in front of his partner, a 50-year-old doctor, and their neighbors in Barangay Malinta, Valenzuela City Monday night.

Police records show Angel Santonia had been drinking at the house of their neighbor, Romeo Bautista Sr., when he allegedly drew a .45 caliber pistol and fired repeatedly into the air, alarming the neighborhood.

Witnesses said cooler heads tried to pacify Santonia, but he ignored them. His partner, Dr. Lally Muñoz, arrived and pleaded with him to put the gun away and go home.

Santonia, who also had a .9mm pistol tucked in his waistband, drew this gun, pointed it at his temple and fired. He was declared dead on arrival at the Valenzuela Medical Center.

Witnesses told investigators the victim have been drinking the last four days over misunderstandings with his partner. Muñoz opted to keep silent on the issue, police said.
