MANILA, Philippines - Two Quezon City councilors are seeking to ban the use of plastic and polystyrene within the city hall compound and certain hospitals in the city.
In a proposed ordinance, Councilors Gian Carlo Sotto and Jesus Manuel Suntay said the city government should ban plastic and polystyrene in the city hall building as well as in the Novaliches District Center, Quezon City General Hospital and Novaliches District Hospital to help protect the environment.
The ordinance, if passed, will cover employees, concessionaires, ambulant vendors, and visitors at the city hall and these hospitals.
Concessionaries and ambulant vendors who violate this ordinance will face a fine of P500 for the first offense; P1,000 for the second offense and P2,000 and cancellation of business or operating permit for the third offense.
For government employees, a warning from the personnel’s office will be given for the first offense; a warning from the bureau and the employee’s head of office for the second offense; and a P2,000 fine and a reprimand from the bureau will be imposed for the third offense.
Meanwhile, visitors will be warned for the first offense; a fine of P500 for the second, and P1,000 for the third offense.
